Rocket

So, me and the other I.T. boys around the company get summoned to the head office for a meeting about restructuring the dept. The company is getting bigger, so the dept needs to change from a "one person doing everything in the office" to a system of depts, each handling different aspects of our current roles i.e. networking, field support etc.

This i have no problem with. The current workload for everyone at the moment is simply ludicrous. Some of us have more than one office to support and no resource to help, so anything that helps reduce the stress and helps us become proficient in one role, as apposed to semi-proficient in everything is fine by me.

Here's the rub though.

The company has offices all around the uk, but most staff are based in, or near to our head office. Therefore most of the top roles are in this area, and most of the roles under these positions will have to be based pretty close to this area.

Which is a problem if you are north or south of this line. Like me.

I'm at a stage now where i'm looking for a change in both life and work. 30 is a comin' and i want to be doing something a bit more than turning a printer on for someone who says they can't print.

I've done it for the past 8 years, and i'm getting a bit bored of it now.

However, going by the spread of jobs, this might be the only option open to me.

We've now got to type up our cvs, and then effectively re-apply for our jobs, followed by a nice trip south again for an interview. Morale building it ain't.
