ceremony

good god, it has been a while. the last week has been taken up with work commitments and recovering from a lovely pub crawl around the old haunts of edinburgh. oh, and neil, the "new" old fire-station will become a local again. you knowsit.

so i'm on a course for microsoft exchange this week in an area of edinburgh called beaverbank (it's a bank! for beavers!). the course itself is a bit melon twisting, but enjoyable none the less. it's all cd based, which means it's basically an american talking about said subject. it also means that after 5 days you sound like you've just just stepped off the 8.00am greyhound from el paso, but i digress.

the problem i find with these things is usually the presenter. the bloke doing this course is acutally pretty good. a jovial sort, he knows his stuff and is not afraid to drop a little sarcasm into the proceedings. always a good thing. the worst one i can remember was one that was presented by a very grey looking-monotoned voiced bloke. i'm not being cruel here, he knew his stuff, and he's a published author of several computer texts, but think about the way lion-o used to talk in thundercats (got.....to......get.....to.....etc....etc.....). in other words, slow and low.

it's bearable for the first day, but two days later you want to (a) wind him up a bit, see if he goes any faster, and (b) throw the monitor out the window. think john major reading you a tax form, and you'll get the jist of it.

still, he could have been glasweigan, so i guess i can be thankful for that.
